Dr. Cath Walker – Volunteer

Cath has been volunteering at the Registry since 2016, and currently organises the Registry’s Facebook page.

She graduated from University of Sydney with a BVSc in 1978. After a stint in the UK, Cath joined Seaforth Veterinary Hospital as an associate and later practice principal, during which time she was awarded a graduate diploma in veterinary pathology (DipVetPath). Heading to academia, her PhD (1994, USyd) described the clinical pathology of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), followed by post-doctoral research into animal models of infectious disease and vaccine development (Macquarie University and Cambridge). As a Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO, she developed animal models for the commercialisation of their drug delivery program. Cath joined the Australian biotech Novogen in 1999, leading a group of research scientists in collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team. Her final “gig” before retiring in 2015 was as Oncology Medical Science Liaison with the international pharma Boehringer Ingelheim.
